The idea of having four different but interaleted aspects is to enable those involved in the site to share the variety of facilities, and interact with each other.
Care home residents could share in the activities of the day centre or 'extra care' tenants could take part in a seder. Clients, staff and volunteers from the whole site will have the opportunity to come together to create a vibrant, active and enjoyable place to be.
'Extra Care'
Our 45 'extra care' apartments will be the first scheme of its kind on offer to the UK's Jewish community. These apartments will offer a real alternative to residential care - a way for older people to remain independent and safe in their own home for as long as possible, with access to social opportunities and the ability to share times of special significance from Shabbat to festivals.

The apartments will help to promote independence within a safe, caring environment, set within modern living accommodation. The apartments will include a hall, lounge, eating area, one or two bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen. A communal lounge and dining room are intended to be the focal point of the scheme. These are complemented by a hobby room, and a private courtyard created especially for tenants' use.
Care home
The new home will enable Jewish Care to offer state-of-the-art nursing and dementia care of the highest standard. The accommodation will offer a total of 54-en suit bedrooms, with six dedicated to respite care and the remaining 48 for residents with longer term care needs.

These 48 bedrooms will be subdivided into four groups of 12 to enable smaller community living; each group will have its own communal lounge, dining room and activity room, as well as access to the services provided by the main campus. The small cluster layout will provide residents with the opportunity to develop more individual relationships and will help staff build personal bonds with residents.
Day Centre
The new day centre, which replaces the Michael Sobell Community Centre, is designed to offer all facilities on one level, ensuring the maximum access is offered to all members of the community.
The day centre will offer older people a programme of activities designed to keep them physically and mentally active and connected to their community. There will also be a small shopping parade with a hairdressers, grocers, activity rooms and art rooms. In the evening, the centre will be used by the wider community for activities such as dance classes, youth clubs, and bridge among others, as well as other communal events and has been specially designed to give privacy to all users from the outside.

Communal seders and festivals celebrations, as well as regular Shabbat services, will take place in the synagogue, which is created from the main hall in the day centre. These services will be open to the local community, encouraging a real communal atmosphere which will reverberate throughout the care campus.
Offices
Jewish Care belives that its support and administrative teams should work within the heart of a care environment in order for staff to remain closely in touch with the work the organisation carries out. The offices will be located above the day centre and will allow our helpline, Jewish Care Direct, and our social work teams to remain part of the main body of the organisation, along with more traditional functions such as finance, human resources and fundraising.
