Ron's generous Southend gesture

Date:  5 December 2007

Ron Moody shows generous support of Jewish Care

Veteran actor Ron Moody showed his generosity by donating the proceeds of a performance of his one night show at the Palace Theatre, to the local Jewish community. Half will go to the Southend and District Aid Society, which raises funds for Jewish Care’s Raymond House care home in Clifton Terrace and the Southend and Westcliff Community Centre, in Cobham Road.

The remainder will go to the synagogue youth club at Southend and Westcliff Hebrew Congregation in Finchley Road.

After the show, Aid Society chairman Sybil Greenstein and her husband Jeffrey went backstage to meet Mr Moody, as did synagogue council members Marilyn and Stephen Salt, and Barbara Newman.

“It was a lovely gesture,” said Mrs Greenstein, referring to Ron Moody’s generosity.
