Jewish Care is looking for three people to be part of its first internship programme to attract more young adults into volunteering. The charity will offer three internships every six months, starting this summer, and the new recruits will work as project coordinators two days-a-week during the period, with basic expenses paid.
Juliette Overlander of the charity’s volunteer department explains: “We want to create a team who will develop and market new volunteering opportunities for young people in the 14 to 25 age group. They will be based alongside the volunteer department and will be supported by training and supervision.
“We are looking for enthusiastic, organised people with good ideas and good interpersonal skills who are keen to get stuck in. It is a great opportunity for boosting CVs, as they will gain experience in project management, marketing, team skills and community work.”
Sonia Douek, community development manager, adds: “The young adult volunteering programme will help us reach our aim of getting many more of our young adults involved in our work, by creating more exciting and relevant volunteering opportunities throughout the Jewish Care network of services.”
Mrs Douek also said she hoped the scheme, which is supported by the Pears Foundation and the Harold Hyam Wingate Foundation, would become “a beacon for other organisations, demonstrating the value and importance of volunteering in both the immediate and wider communities.”
