ADGS Golf Day

Date:  3 May 2007

Victory for Vickers brothers at ADGS Golf Day

Brothers Graham and Stephen Vickers won the Lawrence Fisher Trophy, top prize at the 25th Alzheimer’s Disease Golf Day, held at Dyrham Park on Wednesday 2nd May. Organised by Morella Kayman in memory of her late husband, the day raised £32,500 for Jewish Care’s Sam Beckman Special Day Care Centre, to provide transport, therapists and recreation, as well as repairs.

A former Potters Bar Club member, Stephen is currently unaffiliated, while Graham, who is the younger brother, plays at Moor Park. With 46 stableford points, they won on the back nine from Keith Leslie and Stephen Faull, 44 pts.

Graham Vickers said: “We like to support charities so we play in as many charity events as we can. The important thing about golf is to enjoy it – the real winners are ADGS.”

Stephen Vickers said: “My brother took me round – he supported me. We had a lovely game.” Their prize was presented by Mrs Kayman and Dyrham Park Captain Austin Freeman.

The overall singles winner was Lawrence Raymond with 38pts; the men’s singles winner was Hilton Lewis (38pts); the ladies’ singles winner was Ruth Goldsobel (37pts). Ronnie Dann won the men’s seniors (35pts) and Wendy Sheridan won the ladies’ senior trophy (35pts).

The tournament, which attracted 112 players, was followed by an anniversary dinner, after which Mrs Kayman thanked the audience for helping to provide care for those suffering “from this ghastly disease.”
