Monitoring machine for the Princess Alexandra Home

Date:  3 May 2007

Fundraising efforts provide monitoring machine for the Princess Alexandra Home

Thanks to the efforts of the fundraising committee which supports Jewish Care’s Princess Alexandra Home in Stanmore, nursing home clients will benefit from a second ‘Vital Signs’ monitoring machine. A supper quiz raising £2,000 had funded the machine.

The machine was presented to the home in Common Road at a tea on Tuesday 1st May, organised by Joan Romain, chairman of the fundraising committee, to thank the members for their hard work.

Fionnuala Baiden, the home’s registered manager, thanked Mrs Romain, chairman of the Princess Alexandra Fundraising Committee and her members, saying: “I don’t often get a chance to say how much we appreciate what you do for us – it is a wonderful achievement.” Ms Baiden explained that the new equipment would be used to record temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respiratory functions including measuring oxygen levels.

Mrs Romain, who lives in Stanmore, set up the fundraising committee after she retired from business. She said: “I’ve always been interested in welfare work and helping people. I’ve been involved for many years, originally with the Jewish Welfare Board [the precursor of Jewish Care]. The committee provides many of the extras which help to improve the residents’ lives. As well as fundraising, I volunteer at the home, on reception, with activities; whatever they want me to do. I’m a Joan-of-all-trades.”

The other committee members are: Anita Bloom, Queenie Beer, Stella Fifer, Susan Kelvin, Sass and Esther Levi, Esther and Brian Levy, Linda Paerse, Barbara Posner, Shirley Silverman and Peter Wigodsky.
