Some 150 people attended Jewish Care’s Young Business Group reception and talk on private equity on Tuesday 13th November at the City offices of Berwin Leighton Paisner, which sponsored the event together with Marble Bar Asset Management.
The panellists were David Blitzer, senior managing director of The Blackstone Group; Johannes Huth, head of KKR London and James Harding, Business Editor of The Times, who moderated the discussion. The panel was followed by a lively question and answer session.
The audience heard how private equity has enjoyed unparalleled growth over the last five years with record levels of deal activity fuelled by historically low interest rates and the availability of cheap debt. However, the dramatic shift in sentiment in the credit card markets over the summer had effectively shut down the market for large leveraged buyouts.
Guests were welcomed by Harold Paisner of Berwin Leighton Paisner and Young Business Group chairman Marcus Anselm gave the vote of thanks. The event raised over £14,000 for Jewish Care’s Centres for Wellbeing, to provide services for people with mental health needs.
Daniel Casson, assistant director of fundraising, said: “Events like these are excellent opportunities for young people who involved in corporate life to hear first class speakers while supporting the work of Jewish Care.”
