Gary Baugh’s travelling museum brought smiles to the faces of residents of Jewish Care’s Raymond House care home in Clifton Terrace, Southend-on-Sea. They sang along to Max Bygraves songs played on an old Victorian gramophone and were interested in the memorabilia that he brought with him to the reminiscence session on Monday 7th April.
Items included a soldier’s flag, a wartime hat, a wedding dress and a selection of comics and books such as a Tiger Tims’ annual. A ventriloquist’s dummy called Charlie McCarthy proved a source of fascination, as did the more modern puppets Sooty, Sweep and Soo.
“It went very well, the residents really enjoyed it,” said social care coordinator Heather Jackson.
