The Shabbatones, an a cappella singing group from the University of Pennsylvania, performed at Jewish Care’s Brenner Community Centre at Raine House in Stamford Hill on Wednesday 9th January, as part of their first-ever international tour.
Founded in 2001, the 14-piece student-run group is one of the region’s premier a cappella groups, known for their entertaining and energetic performances of American, Israeli and Jewish music. All of the arrangements are written by group members who are both graduate and undergraduate students.
The music hit the right notes with the elderly centre members who were mesmerised by their arrangements. Frank Crocker, the centre’s programme manager, said: “They were absolutely brilliant and everyone loved their singing. They were also very generous with their time and stayed behind afterwards to chat to the members, which was much appreciated.”
