Elstree resident Karin Hirsch has decided on an unusual way to prepare for her 50th birthday in June. She’s in training for this year’s London Marathon on April 13th – so that she can raise money for leading care charity, Jewish Care.
And the mother-of-two’s family has been rallying round to support the first-time London Marathon runner. Homoeopath Karin explains: “The whole family has been very supportive - listening to my constant chatter about the marathon, my training and aches and pains.
“My husband even did the Berkhampsted half-marathon with me a few weeks ago and my son and his girlfriend have joined me on a 14 mile walk. This was all without me asking them to join me.”
Karin, who is aiming to raise in the region of £2000 in sponsorship money, adds: “I can think of few better causes to run for than Jewish Care, given all of the help and support they provide for people in need.
“I’m training five days a week, generally in the early mornings or evenings as I work full time. I have never been a particularly athletic person but recently I have discovered how much I enjoy getting out and walking. This is a larger leap than I thought it would be. As I’ll be 50 in June – maybe it’s my midlife crisis!” adds Karin, who is a first-time runner in the London Marathon.
Commenting on the contribution being made to Jewish Care by Richard and five other first-time runners in the London Marathon, chief executive Simon Morris said: “It’s impossible to exaggerate the devotion of people who are prepared to give up their free time to raise money in this way for vulnerable members of the community. We are extremely grateful for their commitment and would like to urge their friends and families to support their efforts as generously as possible.”
