Work has begun in Golders Green where Jewish Care, the health and social care charity, is building a £40m state-of-the-art care campus, believed to be the first of its kind in the country.
Witnessing the demolition of Stuart Young House, the charity’s old headquarters in the Golders Green Road and the adjacent Michael Sobell Community Centre in Limes Avenue, Jewish Care’s chief executive Simon Morris said: “I am very excited that the project is getting underway. It is history in the making and demonstrates Jewish Care’s continued ability to meet the care needs of the next generation of older people in new and innovative ways.”
Due for completion in 2010, the campus will include a 56-bed nursing and dementia care home and 45 ‘extra-care’ assisted housing apartments, where priority will be given to Holocaust survivors, a day centre and offices.
