Jewish Care resident celebrates his 100th birthday

To celebrate his centenary, Jewish Care Princess Alexandra Home resident Maurice Gould was honoured as Chatan Bereshet (Bridegroom of the Torah) and his wife Joyce was Eshet Chayil (Woman of Worth) for Simchat Torah.

Maurice & Joyce Gould

Both Maurice and Joyce Gould live at the Princess Alexandra Home in Stanmore and have been married for 74 years. They were married in the Jubilee Street Synagogue in the East End, and Maurice was a professional violinist who led the orchestra on the Queen Mary liner.

When asked how he felt on the occasion of turning 100, Maurice said: “I’m not so fussed – I don’t feel any different – I just woke up one day at 100 years of age.”

Maurice, Joyce, their two sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, will be celebrating Maurice’s 100th birthday at a party on Sunday.
