The award was created in memory of Adiahu Antigha, Director of Hackney Community and Voluntary Sector, who passed away in 2006.
To celebrate this important achievement, the Kadimah Centre threw a party. Members, staff and volunteers enjoyed Israeli food while listening to musicians playing on the roof terrace, and the creative writing group read humorous poetry and short stories.
During the party, Kadimah member Derek Stuart won an award for services to music and transport, and David Cohen was awarded for his continuing creative contribution to the life and culture of arts and crafts.
Centre Manager, Nimrod Allon, said: “We wanted to recognise the award we received from Hackney Council so thought a party to celebrate would be a modest way to do so."
Maggie Cook from Hackney Council said: "Staff and trustees decided that the Kadimah Centre deserved to be the winners as we felt that you go the extra mile. We were very impressed by the work that you do and the way your members feel about it. Today has shown me that there is very much a family and community atmosphere here, so thank you for inviting me and congratulations again."
One centre member said: "I enjoy it here very much, and come every day.”
Another said: "The staff deserves massive applause for putting this together for us all today.”
A final testimonial came from a member who told an emotional story of his mental health difficulties and spoke passionately about the support and help he received from Jewish Care.
