Supportive Communities

First Supportive Communities event at Rela Goldhill Lodge
"Let's make things happen together"
What is a supportive community?
A supportive community is a group of local people that meet at each others homes to celebrate and share their skills with one another. Being part of a supportive community can provide you with a unique opportunity to get together with people that you might not usually speak to and to spend time talking and learning from other people’s skills and interests.
What can a supportive community do for me?
Playing an active role in a supportive community can benefit you in so many different ways. You can:
- Gain new and interesting skills from others
- Grow in confidence by assisting people to develop their talents
- Develop new friendships outside of your usual social circle
- Feel a greater sense of security and belonging within your local community
- Benefit from Jewish Care and Sage’s services, which include everything from free, practical assistance with handyman tasks around the home to befriending someone over the telephone
What can I do for my community?
Here are just a few of the ways you can get involved. You can:
- Share your knowledge of a specialist subject or teach a skill
- Socialise with community members
- Participate in range of social and cultural events
- Volunteer with Jewish Care or Sage to get active in the wider community
How does it work?
Each supportive community has a Coordinator who liaises with all the members of the community, helping everyone to stay in touch and answering any queries.
