Jewish Care has worked with adults with mental health issues for many years and through its experience has developed a ground-breaking service that is working to raise awareness and acceptance of those who have mental health needs.
By educating people in schools, synagogues and other community organisations, we are breaking down prejudice, fighting ignorance and promoting social inclusion.
What do we do?
We deliver creative presentations that bring mental health issues to life and deal with them in straight-talking, easily understandable language.
People who have first hand experience of mental health issues – our service users, their carers, volunteers and professionals – take part in presentations that use drama, life stories, art, audio visuals and music.
Some workshops offer an introduction to emotional wellbeing whilst others focus on more severe mental health issues such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (manic depression) or depression.
Our presentations meet best practice guidelines and comply with the National Service Framework standard one for mental health.
Who do we work with?
Our Mental Health Education and Development Service works with Jewish and non Jewish secondary schools, employers, synagogues, community social groups and businesses. The service has also presented at a national mental health conference. We work in partnership with the Department of Spiritual, Religious and Cultural needs for the East London and Hackney Mental Health Trust.
How the service works
When you contact us, we will send you a training request form to complete and return. We will then discuss your requirements with our staff, users, volunteers and carers. We will put together a team to devise and deliver the training you require.
