Jewish Care

Located in a prime position on the Southend-on-Sea waterfront is the vibrant and growing Southend & Westcliff Jewish Community Centre.

This Community Centre offers a range of activities for older people in the local community, and is now going through a period of growth and change that will introduce more activities and services to attract a wider range of people.

Recent improvements to the centre include a newly decorated activities room, newly furnished dining room and extensive external repairs and redecoration.

While maintaining a Jewish feel to the daily programme, Jewish Care is keen to modernise the centre and strengthen links with the local synagogues and community. There are currently around 120 members, and the number is rising.

Current activities include: 

• craft activities 
• scrabble and card games 
• keep fit classes 
• reminiscence 
• computing classes 
• daily entertainment after lunch 
• kosher lunch, tea and a chance to socialise

Future activities are likely to include Israeli and line dancing, Hebrew lessons, parent and toddler groups, after-school clubs, keep fit, yoga, pilates and youth groups.

The Southend and Westcliff Jewish Community Centre is supported by an active local fundraising committee – The Southend and District Aid Society.
